Common Dream Intrepertation Overview
A Little Dream History
I just thought I'd give you all a little background infomation on dreams. I'll try not to let it get boring.
Let's see dream interpretation dates back to 3000-4000 B.C., at that time they were documented on clay tablets. We have always been interested in trying to understand our dreams.
In some primal societies it was hard for the people to distinguish between the dream world and the waking world. They probably chose not to, because they considered the dream world to be an extension of reality and was a powerful world.
In Greek and Roman eras, dreams were seen in a religious context. They were thought to be direct messages from the gods or from the dead. The people of that time looked to their dreams for solutions to what to do or what action to take. They believed that dreams forewarned and predicted the future. Shrines were built where people could go there to sleep in hopes that a message could come to them through their dreams. Their dreams were so powerful that they even dictated the actions of political and military leaders. Dream interpreters even accompanied military leaders into battle to help with war strategy.
Greek philosopher, Aristotle believed that dreams were s result of physiological functions. Dreams were able to diagnose illness and predict onset of diseases.
During the *Hellenistic period, the main focuse of dreams was there ability to heal.
Temples, called Asciepieions, were built around the healing powers of dreams. It was believed if sick people slept in these temples, they would be sent cures in their dreams. Dream interpretaters even aided the medicine men in their medical diagnosis. It was believed that dreams offered a vital clue for healers to find what was wrong with the dreamer.
In Egypt, priests acted as dream interpreters. The Egyptians recorded their dreams in hieroglyphics. People with particular vivid and significant dreams were believed to be blessed and were considered special. They were seen as divinely gifted.
Dreaming can be seen as an actual place your spirit and soul leaves every night to go and visit.
The Chinese believed that the soul leaves the body to go into this world. However, if they are suddenly awakened, their soul may fail to return to their body.
Some Native American tribes and Mexican civilizations share this same notion of a distinct dream dimension. They believe that their ancestors lived in their dreams and take on non-human forms like plants. Dreams are a way to visit their ancestors. Dreams also helped to point their mission or role in life.
During the Middle Ages, dreams were seen as evil and it's images were temptations from the devil. The devil was believed to fill the mind of humand with poisonous thoughts during dreams.
In the early 19th century, dreams were dismissed as stemming from anxiety, a household noise or even indigestion. Hence there was really no meaning to it. Later in the 19th century, Sigmund Freud (more about him and others later) revived the importance of dreams, and its significance and need for interpretation. He revolutionized the study of dreams.
Tracing back to these ancient cultures, people had always had an inclination to interpret dreams. The bible alone has over seven hundred references to dreams.
Some Common Dreams...
FALLING:
Falling dreams are another theme that is quite common in the world of dreams. Contrary to a popular myth, you will not die if you hit the ground.
As with most common dream themes, falling is an indication of insecurities, instabilities, and anxiety. You are feeling overwhelmed and out of control in some situation in your waking life. This may reflect the way you feel in your relationship or in your work environment. You have lost your foothold and can not hang on or keep up with the hustle of daily life. When you fall, there is nothing you can hold on to. You are forced towards the bottom without any control may parallel a waking situation in your life.
Falling dreams often reflect a sense of failure or inferiority in some circumstance oe situation. It may be the fear of failing in your job/school, loss of status, or failure in love. You are unable to keep up with the status quo or that you don't measure up.
According to Freudian theory, dreams of falling indicates that you are contemplating giving into a sexual urge or impulse. You're maybe lacking indiscretion.
Falling dreams typically occur during the first stage of sleep. Dreams in this stage are often accompanied by muscle spasms of the arms, legs, and the whole body. These sudden contractions, also known as myclonic jerks.
Sometimes when we have these types of dreams, we feel our whole body jerk or twich and we awaken from the jerk. It is thought that this jerking action is part of an arousal mechanism that allows the sleeper to awaken and become quickly alert and responsive to possible threats in the environment.
According to biblical interpretations, dreams about falling have a negative overtone and suggest that man is acting and walking according to his own way of thinking and not those of the Lord.
FLYING:
Flying dreams full under a category of dreams known as lucid dreaming. Lucid dreams occur when you become aware that you are dreaming. Many dreamers describe the ability to fly in their dreams as an exhilarating, joyful, and liberating experience.
If you are flying with ease and enjoying the scene and landscape below, then it suggests that you are on top of a situation. You have risen above something. it may also mean that you have gained a different perspective on things. Flying dreams and the ability to control your flight is representative of your own personal sense of power.
Having difficulties staying in flight indicates a lack of power in controlling your own cicumstances. You may be struggling to stay aloft and stay on course. things like power lines, trees, or mountains may further obstruct your flight. These barriers represent a particular obstacle or person who is standing in your way in your waking life. You need to identify who or what is standing in your way in your waking life. You need to identify who or what is hindering you from moving forward. You may need to believe in yourself and not be afraid.
If you are feeling fear when you are flying or that you feel that you are flying too high, then it suggest that you are afraid of challenges and success.
In reality, we cannot really fly, of course. Thus, such dreams may represent that which is beyond your physical limitations. In your mind, you can be anybody and do anything. Another way of interpreting flying dreams is that these dreams symbolize your strong mind and will. You feel undefeatable and nobody can tell you whay you cannot do and accomplish.
Undoubtedly these dreams leave you a great sense of freedom.
NAKED:
So you are going about your normal routine, going to work, waiting for the bus, or just walking down the street, when you suddenly realize that you ar stark naked. Dreaming that you are completely or partially naked is very common. Nudity symbolizes a variety of things depending on your real life situation.
Becoming mortified at the realization that you are naked in public, reflects you vulnerability or feelings of shamefulness. You may be hiding something and are afraid that others can see right through you. Metaphorically, cloths are a means of concealment. Depending on the type of cloths you wear, you can hide your identity or be someone else. But without them, everything is hanging out for all to see. You are exposed without any defenses. Thus your naked dream may be telling you that you are trying to be something that you really are not. Or you are fearful of being ridiculed and dsigraced. Such anxieties are elevated especially in situations where you are trying to impress others. Perhaps you are in a new work environment or in a new relationship. You may be expressing fears or apprehension in revealing your true feelings in such situations.
Nudity also symbolized being caught off guard. Finding yourself naked at work or in a classroom, suggests that you are unprepared for a project at work or school. You may be unprepared in making a well informed decision. With all eyes on you fear that some flaw will be brought to public attention. You fear that people will see through your true self and you will be exposed as a fraud or a phony.
Often times, when you realize that you are naked in your dream, no one else seems to notice. Everyone else in the dream is going about their business without giving a second look at your nakedness. If this happens in your dream, then it implies that your fears are unfounded; no one will notice except you. You may be magnifying the situation and making an issue of nothing.
If you dream that you are proud of your nakedness and show no embarrassment or shame, then it symbolizes your unrestricted freedom. You have nothing to hide and are proud of who you are. The dream is about a new sense of honesty, openness, and a carefree nature. Perhapes you are trying to get to the "bare facts". Alternatively, the dream may be telling you that you are drawing the wrong kind of attention to yourself. You want to get noticed, but are going about it the wrong way.

Chase:
This is one of serveral common dream themes. As with most of the common dreams, they often stem from feelings of anxiety in your waking life. Running is an instinctive response to physical threats in your environment. In these dreams, you can be pursued by an attacker, an animal or an unknown figure, who wants to hurt or possibly kill you. In turn, you run , hide or try to outwit your pursuer. Your actions in the dream parallel how you respond to pressure and cope with fears, stress or various situations in your waking life. Instead of confronting the situation, you are running away and avoiding it. Ask yourself who is the one chasing you so that you can gain understanding and insight on the source of your fears and  anxieties.
The pursuer or attacker who is chasing you in your dreams may also represent an aspect of yourself. Your own feelings of anger, jealousy, fear, and possibly love, can assume the apprearance of threatening figure. The shadowy figure can also symbolize rejected characteristics of yourself. You may be projecting these onto the unknown chaser. Next time you have a chase dream, turn around and confront your pursuer. Ask them why they are chasing you. Perhaps you are running away from something. What are you trying to run from?
If you are the one doing the chasing, then the dream may highlight your drive and ambition to go after something you want. Or perhaps the dream suggests that you are falling behind and having to catch up with everyone else.
Consider the distance or gap between you and your pursuer. This indicates your closeness to the issue. If the pursuer is gaining on you, then it suggests that the problem is not going away. The problem will surround you until you confornt and address it.
However, if you are able to widen the gap between your pursuer, then the problem is becoming less and less of an issue. You are able to successfully distance yourself from the problem. In essence, the problem is fading away.
A more direct analysis of chase dreams is the fear of being attacked. Such dreams are more common among women than men, who may feel physically vulnerable in the urban environment. These dreams are inspired by fears of violence and sexual assault in which we are so over-exposed from the media, which magnifies such fears.

GROUP DREAMS
Brads Dream      12-22-09
I had this dream where I was at a funeral and all my friends where there and we were leaving and they where driving and I was walking off and told them I would meet them all later....
Ok the first person I talked to was my friend Shonna and I hugged her and told her if she needed anything to call me. She had a scarf over her head and around her neck and was wearing sunglasses and was driving a red convertable, and then my best friend was riding a Harley and dressed in leather and I hugged her and told her I would see her in a little bit, and another friend Travis was on a Harley next to her and dressed in leather and beside Shonna was a friend Deanna and she was driving a truck that had been jacked up off the ground about 6 feet, and some other friends were riding Crotch Rockets, Chance, Chris, Ef, and Eli. Chance was driving a Hiabusa and Chris was driving a Yahama. Ezrand EJ was driving a Kawasaki Ninja and Eli was driving a CBR, and before they pulled off and as I was walking off and thru the graveyard, Deanna said follow me I will run over anybody that gets in our way. The Sun was shining so bright it hurt my eyes to look at anything.
INTERPRETATION
Something in your life is ending. It could be a situation, relationship (friendship), or a job. Whatever it is, you need to let go of your feelings (resentments, anger, hostility). Your friends believe that you need to do this, they think that you have been burdened by responsibility and you need to escape. You need your freedom and you need adventure. They may have been giving you their opinion for a while, but you refuse to listen to them, probably because you are affaird of the unknown. You will need to be tough, maybe this is not in your nature. You will break through, and this will be the best thing for you. You will need to pay attention to what is going on around you. You have had blinders on, now is the time to take them off. Let go of old attitudes. This is a good dream. Listen to your friends.
